REGION: Podgorica subregion, Montenegrin basin of Lake Skadar CHARACTERISTICS: Vranac is an ancient Montenegrin grape variety whose true origins are deeply rooted in history. The wine displays an intense ruby-red colour. The bouquet reveals, it reveals pronounced aromas of small dark berries, blackberry and blueberry, complemented by subtle notes of dry spices. On the palate, it is very fruity, dominated by blackberry flavours, with balanced acidity and a moderate tannin structure. The finish is long and intense, with a distinctive fruity-spicy character. SERVING: 18 °C FOOD: Pairs well with red meat, game, spicy dishes and rich, mature cheeses. In Montenegro, Vranac has traditionally been served with Njeguši prosciutto, as well as with dishes prepared from high-quality sea and lake fish—particularly smoked carp—and with various roasted and grilled specialties.
